I changed the focus of the Stellar Clarion from just a gaming magazine. so you may find it useful in your quest

I added an article on world creation, the mag is free (although a large download at 88 mb), and it also has plenty of examples of maps I have done for the world of Kir

It also has a writing exercise that may get your juices going.
